twelve years ago, Talking Heads briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Take Me To The River”. Talking Heads was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Talking Heads and The Best Of: Once In A Lifetime together. The Best Of: Once In A Lifetime isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This is my first Talking Heads Album and i must say i am blown away.
Opening track Take Me To The River shows the best of Talking Heads. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in The Best Of: Once In A Lifetime. I was truly moved when I heard Burning Down The House. This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) is Talking Heads’s best work in years. Slippery People (Live) is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Music of Life During Wartime (Live) is gentle, never overbearing. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. I can’t stop playing Road To Nowhere. Wild Wild Life is really a nice song to relax and listen too. Blind is a bit different from Talking Heads stereotypical stuff. (Nothing But) Flowers is a fine track on any terms. Once Sax and Violins gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Talking Heads is hitting on all cylinders in Lifetime Piling Up.
