Now signed to Tortoise’s Savoy Records, the title track from second album “Tortoise” leads Tortoise’s back-to-school campaign. Tortoise isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Lead single “Magnet Pulls Through” and “Night Air” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Tortoise is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Night Air is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Ry Cooder presents the exquisite mix of instruments on Tortoise. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Tin Cans and Twine the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Voice of Tortoise in Spiderwebbed is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Still going through Tortoise and coming to appreciate His Second Story Island more and more with every listen. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Tortoise. Flyrod has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Tortoise must have run out of lyrics on the next track Cornpone Brunch.
