On 55578, CD01 album, Wolfsheim have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “A Look Into Your Heart (different mix)” and “Annie (early version)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This disc has all of the essential Wolfsheim classics. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like 55578, CD01.
Lyrics of Annie (early version) are precise and evocative. As always, Wolfsheim’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Elias is a exquisite sing-along. It’s Not Too Late - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Don’t judge Now I Fall on the first listening. Real is one of these floating songs. Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love is a medium tempo tune. Wolfsheim sings his heart out in The Sparrows and The Nightingales (extended mix). Where Greed Talks is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor.
