thirteen years ago, Wynton Marsalis briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Bitter Dose”. With Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers Vol. 2 My Ideal isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. When you buy a Wynton Marsalis album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Bitter Dose
Bitter Dose is a bit of a show-tune. Jodi - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. This track is clearly meant to showcase Wynton Marsalis’s vocal abilities. When listening to Gypsy, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. I like Soulful Mr. Timmons because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. In My Ideal the music gets its power. Blakey’s Theme - This one makes me want to not only sing along.
