Since completing 1995’s ‘Lief Lulla’, Zoviet France fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Since Zoviet France last CD (Just An Illusion) on Mute Records back in 1995, I have felt a massive void in my life. There is so much to love about Zoviet France, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Just An Illusion constantly brilliant.
Nachtmaal is one of the more up-tempo songs on Just An Illusion. Wood Shock is beautiful, yet underrated track. This song may be the most meaningful. This track is a great song that still never gets old. The song Ascend A Fall ending is my favorite… so catchy! Caught In The Square is a medium tempo tune. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Swelled Out Downward is pretty funky and mellow. Signing Papal Briefs is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Is It? is a fine track on any terms. One listen to the sheer beauty of Mute Moon was all I needed. Suspicious Stare can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Zoviet France is all about. Lief Kirn is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction.
